How to update NEUMI BS5P firmware

NOTE: All NEUMI BS5P since July 2021 have the 5-26-2021 Community EQ firmware installed. There is no need to update any BS5P purchased since July 2021.

In this guide, we will show the process for installing a new firmware in the NEUMI BS5P bookshelf speaker. This process requires the partial disassembly of the BS5P bookshelf speaker, and requires basic hand tools such as a Philips head screw driver. This process should only be done by someone who feels comfortable disassembling the speaker. Care must be taken during the process to protect the delicate electronics and cables inside the speaker.

Step 1: Download and install the firmware flashing tool

Download and install the firmware flashing tool from the link below. Note that the download is a ZIP file. Extract the contents of this ZIP file and run the setup.exe file to install the tool.

Step 2: Download the desired firmware version

Select from one of the following firmware versions to install. Note that the downloads are ZIP files. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to locate the .fw firmware file. If you don’t know which one to use, we recommend the “05-26-2021 Community EQ” version.

Step 3: Connecting the BS5P to the computer

Unplug the power adapter from the BS5P. Using a Philips screwdriver, remove the 10 screws holding the plate amplifier to the back of the BS5P. Do not disconnect any of the wires. Take care to not pull the black ribbon cable loose as it is connected to the remote sensor at the front of the speaker. If it is accidentally pulled loose, carefully plug it back into the remote sensor. Connect the BS5P amplifier to your computer using a standard micro USB cable.

Step 4: Start the firmware update tool

Run the firmware update tool by going to Start->Actions Tools->Multimedia Update Tool

Step 5: Load and flash the firmware

From the update tool window, click on the icon with the two rotating arrows:

Browse, find, and select the firmware file you downloaded above. Note that the download is a ZIP file which you must extract to find the firmware file inside with a .fw file extension. Select the firmware file and then click on the Replace button:

Click on the large button with the down arrow to flash the firmware. If the button is greyed out and not enabled, that means the BS5P has not been detected. In this case, unplug the USB cable from the BS5P amplifier, make sure that the power cable has been disconnected, and then plug the USB cable back in.

The firmware update process should take less than 30 seconds to complete, and the Successful count in the blue status box should increase by 1.

Step 6: Reassemble the BS5P

Take care in reassembling the BS5P. Check that the black ribbon cable has not been pulled loose as it is connected to the remote sensor at the front of the speaker. If it is accidentally pulled loose, carefully plug it back into the remote sensor. Reinstall the 10 screws to be hand-tight only.

Power on the BS5P and check the speaker for proper remote control functionality. If the remote control and/or status light is not working, check that the black ribbon cable is correctly connected on the inside.

Since the firmware update clears the Bluetooth paring information, you will have to pair the BS5P with your music sources again.
